I focus on novel instrumentation and protocols useful in (bio)analytical
chemistry. I pay particular attention to analytical tools for definite identification
of molecules via their structural characterization - mass spectrometry and
surface-enhanced Raman spectrometry (SERS).
Ongoing Projects
The synthesis of silver nanoparticles and their surface modification
Silver nanoparticles and their close interaction with molecules of an analyte are important prerequisite for
sensitive SERS analysis. We develop nanoparticles of suitable chemistry to improve selectivity and sensitivity of
SERS experiments.
Microfluidic devices for electro-driven separations
Signal of an analyte in real-world samples is often interfered with other presented components. We focus on
the designing of an instrumentation, which enables electro-driven separation of the sample and its online
coupling to Raman and MS detection. Such a coupling represents a method of high separation efficiency with
detection providing definite analyte identification.
Mapping of planar samples via SERS
Many materials does not allow the application of traditional mapping methods (e.g. MALDI-MS). We develop
protocols and related instrumentation for the introduction of silver nanostructures on a planar sample for
subsequent SERS mapping.
